Metals that can be Lost Foamed

In general, all types of ferrous and non-ferrous materials can be used as foam casting materials. Because the foam pattern itself as well as the gating system must 'dissolve' in order for the casting to be produced, metals poured in lost foam casting are required to be above 1 000°F. Metals with lower temperatures can also be poured, but these casings are usually limited in terms of size.

Commonly cast metals in lost foam casting includes:

  • Aluminum alloys
  • Nickel Alloys
  • Steels
  • Cast Irons

Less frequently used metals include:

  • Copper alloys
  • Stainless Steels

The lost foam casting process is able to cast weight from 0.02 kilograms to 25 kilograms.
